MetaTrader 5 (MT5) — width, and whether a setup uses it · Nigeria
Most of what MetaTrader 5 adds answers problems that appear when a setup gets wider. Two of its additions pay at any size. This page is about telling those apart before anything is installed.
Open Exness Account →MetaTrader 5 is wider than MetaTrader 4 rather than harder or easier, and width only pays where a setup is wide. For someone holding one or two symbols on a single chart, most of the additions — the longer timeframe list, the extra forms of staged order, the second and third market window — are never opened. Two of them earn their place at any size. The useful part is that this is decidable in advance, from the shape of the setup rather than from the length of the feature list.
Measured order execution — Standard
How orders actually filled when real market orders were placed on Exness’s MT5 feed — fill time, slippage and rejects by order size:
| Instrument | Order size | Avg fill | Avg slippage | Fails |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EURUSDm | 0.01 lot | 151 ms | -0.333 pts | 0 |
| EURUSDm | 0.1 lot | 151 ms | -0.333 pts | 0 |
| EURUSDm | 1.0 lot | 146 ms | -0.333 pts | 0 |
| GBPUSDm | 0.01 lot | 141 ms | 0.667 pts | 0 |
| GBPUSDm | 0.1 lot | 130 ms | 0.0 pts | 0 |
| GBPUSDm | 1.0 lot | 135 ms | 0.333 pts | 0 |
| XAUUSDm | 0.01 lot | 141 ms | 0.0 pts | 0 |
| XAUUSDm | 0.1 lot | 151 ms | 80.0 pts | 0 |
| XAUUSDm | 1.0 lot | 130 ms | -72.333 pts | 0 |
Small sample (a few round-trips per size); indicative. The same pricing engine feeds every platform the broker offers.
MetaTrader 5 (MT5) at Exness
- The additions in MetaTrader 5 are mostly about width: more places to put a chart, more ways to stage an order before the level arrives, more markets reachable in one window.
- A setup with one or two symbols and a single chart open touches almost none of that width in a normal week.
- Two of its additions pay at any size: positions and orders stay in step across desktop, web and mobile on the same account, and the depth-of-market panel shows a different thing from the price line.
- It connects to every Exness account type and is free to download on Windows, macOS, the MT5 WebTerminal and the mobile apps.
- The sign that settles it in advance is the shape of the setup — how many symbols, how many charts, whether orders are staged before the move — and not the length of a feature list.
What each entry actually is
| Platform | Pricing model | Suited to | Devices |
|---|---|---|---|
| MetaTrader 5 | Spread (+ commission on Raw/Zero) | A wide setup: several markets and several charts at once | Windows, Mac, Web, iOS, Android |
| MetaTrader 4 | Spread (+ commission on Raw/Zero) | An inherited setup: material and add-ons already written for it | Windows, Mac, Web, iOS, Android |
| Exness Terminal | Spread (+ commission on Raw/Zero) | A machine that installs nothing; the setup is rebuilt each visit | Any modern web browser |
| Exness Trade app | Spread (+ commission on Raw/Zero) | A phone-sized view, kept current by the phone store | iOS, Android |
Every row carries the same pricing column because pricing follows the account type, not the program. The rows differ in how wide a setup each one can hold at once, which is the only column that changes with the choice on this page.
Trying it before a setup widens
MetaTrader 5 is downloaded from the Personal Area area once an account exists (how that is opened), and a free demo is enough to run the three counts above against a real window rather than against a feature list.
Open Exness Account →What width is for
Every addition in the newer terminal answers a question that appears when a working setup gets wider: more instruments open at once, more timeframes compared side by side, more orders resting in the market waiting for a level. These are real answers to real problems, and they are problems that arrive with width.
A setup that is one symbol and one chart does not have those problems yet. Nothing is wrong with the additions; they simply have no work to do, and a capability with no work to do is indistinguishable from a capability that is absent.
The two additions that pay at any width
State that follows the account rather than the machine. Positions and orders stay in step across desktop, web and mobile on the same account, so a chart closed on a computer and reopened on a phone shows the same book. That is worth as much on one symbol as on twenty.
A view of resting interest. The depth-of-market panel shows orders sitting at nearby price levels, which is a different question from where the price is right now. One chart is enough for that view to be useful.
Deciding before installing anything
The predictor is not experience and it is not ambition; it is the shape of the working setup as it exists this month. Count the symbols normally watched, count the charts normally open at the same time, and note whether orders are usually sent at the moment of the decision or staged in advance to trigger later. Two small answers out of three means the width will sit unused.
None of that is permanent. Both terminals connect to the same account types, so a setup that widens later can move then, and what moving costs is the setup and not the account.
Three counts that answer it in advance
- Count the symbols. One or two, and the multi-market window is decoration. Six or more, and it becomes the reason to be on this terminal at all.
- Count the charts open at the same time. A single chart shows one timeframe at a time, and the length of the timeframe list stops mattering the moment it passes what is actually compared.
- Note how orders are placed. Orders sent at the moment of the decision need one form. Orders staged in advance to trigger at a level are where the longer list of pending forms starts to earn something.
Two small answers out of three is not an argument for the older terminal. It only means the newer one will be used as a plain charting window, which it does perfectly well.
Additions against the shape of the setup
| What MetaTrader 5 adds | One symbol, one chart | Several symbols, several charts |
|---|---|---|
| A longer list of chart timeframes | One is in use at a time; the rest stay unopened | Side-by-side comparison becomes routine |
| More built-in indicators and analytical objects | A handful get used, as on any terminal | A larger set reduces reliance on outside files |
| More forms of pending order | Rarely reached when orders are sent at the decision | Central once entries are staged in advance |
| Markets beyond forex in the same window | Unused while one market is traded | The main reason to be on this terminal |
| Depth of market | Useful immediately | Useful immediately |
| State kept in step across devices | Useful immediately | Useful immediately |
The last two rows do not depend on width. Everything above them does.
